Houston pest control

We are Texas's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Houston raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Houston pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Houston Raccoon Control Tip: Are Raccoons Able To Claw Or Gnaw Their Way Through Walls?
Raccoons are among the largest animal species that can become a nuisance in urban and suburban areas, and because of their size in many cases they can also cause a reasonable amount of damage. They are well known for their cute furry appearance, but also for their tendency to forage among the garbage cans of domestic and commercial properties when they are present in urban and suburban areas. One of the questions that some people may have to deal with is the ability of raccoons to make holes to allow them to move in and out of a property, and also to allow them to move through different areas of a property too.

The Claws And Teeth Of Raccoons
While the front paws of raccoons are small with a good amount of dexterity to allow them to manipulate small items, these paws also have very strong claws. Raccoons also have particularly strong teeth which the can use to gnaw, along with using their claws, so when you look at their strength and the possibility of causing damage, a raccoon certainly has the ability to cause a reasonable amount of problems. The key question in this instance is whether or not the raccoon would actually be strong enough, or actually have sufficient motivation to be able to claw or gnaw their way through a wall.

Can Raccoons Get Through Exterior Or Supporting Walls?
The teeth and claws of raccoons are quite strong, but it is also worth considering the materials that are used to build exterior and supporting walls. In the majority of situations these walls are built with brick or stone, and even when using slightly softer building materials the exterior and supporting walls of a property are generally very sturdy, and will strong enough to be able to resist a raccoon trying to claw its way through. A more common situation is if a raccoon is able to find a plastic vent in the wall that it has been able to remove in order to get through the exterior wall.

Are They Able To Break Through Partition Walls?
The partition walls that are located within a domestic property are made of different materials to the exterior and supporting walls of the home, with plasterboards or other similar boards generally used to divide a home into smaller rooms. These boards are not as sturdy as the masonry of the main walls, but they are also fairly unlikely to be under attack from a determined raccoon trying to get through. The main challenge for a raccoon will be getting a sufficient hole to be able to expand, but they should be able to get through a partition wall if given sufficient time and motivation to want to do so. In truth however, this is rare, as most raccoons can find a way around, and may only need to do this if they become trapped within a cavity wall.

How Should You Deal With A Raccoon Active In Or Around Your Home?
Raccoons can cause a significant nuisance to both people and pets if they are allowed to be active within a property, and you should always investigate and deal with any signs such as the sound of gnawing within the walls. Where the culprit is a raccoon, the most common and effective approach is to place a cage trap with some wet dog food or cat food as bait in an area where the raccoon is active. Once you have captured the raccoon, make sure you relocate it at least ten miles away from your property, in a location that is clear from any other domestic properties as well.
